What is the coronavirus and why it is dangerous
Coronaviruses are the number of viruses are widely spread among birds and other animals in some cases lethal for humans causing heavy respiratory infections.
Another widely known name of the virus is SARS.
There aren’t known vaccines or antiviral drugs that are approved to be treatment or vaccine against the disease at the moment.
The virus name is came from it’s similarity with Corona (means ‘crown’) appears under an electron microscope said Bhanu Sud, MD, an infectious disease specialist at St. Jude Medical Center in Placentia, California.
Death rate of the virus seems to be really high according to Chinese authorities latest announcements. Around 10-15% in spite of the fact there are several reports that Chinese authorities lower real numbers over the disease area of spread.
The Corona Virus seems to be dangerous for a various reasons. On of them is possible way of transmission between humans – through air.
Other possible ways are:
- close personal contact (e.g shaking hands or sexual contact);
- an object or surface with viral particles on it and dust;
- and rarely from fecal contamination.
Corona virus (2019-nCoV) can affects human respiratory functions and even lead to kidney failure.
As far as there is a new virus human seems to have no or incredibly low immunity to new virus strain.
Can the virus spread between people?
Yes. obviously can due to airborne nature and air way of transmission.
How far has the virus spread?
A newly identified coronavirus has been spreading in China, and has now reached several other countries. As the number of confirmed cases and deaths continue to rise, health officials are working on all fronts to learn more about the virus and put measure into place to curtail its spread. Here’s a look at what you need to know about the virus, now called 2019-nCoV.
China’s neighbours in the Asia region are on high alert, however, with cases reported in Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam, South Korea and Nepal.
There are reported cases of spreading in China’s neighbours in the Asia which are now high alert state. These countries are Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam, South Korea and Nepal.
There are also some reported cases in the United States.
Several countries turned on some additional biosecurity measures and implemented bio screening of the passengers in airports to prevent new pandemia spreads rapidly fast.
Travel stocks were hit hard, especially considering how travel could be curtailed during the upcoming Lunar New Year travel season.
Last known case was reported from Mexico and Indonesia. A man who fell ill in Mexico on Monday following a December trip to Wuhan, China, is under observation as a potential case of the coronavirus.
The 57-year-old molecular biology professor works for the Instituto Politecnico Nacional university in the city of Reynosa, which borders with the U.S. The man returned to Mexico on Jan. 10 through a Mexico City airport and then flew to the state of Tamaulipas, Mexican authorities said.
There is also report from Indonesia where authorities decide to put 2nd suspected coronavirus patient under close observation.
«Result will be out in 2 days»: said the official.
First known cases and chronics of pandemia
The first cases of the pneumonia-like virus were reported in Wuhan, China on Dec. 31, 2019. Since then, the virus has spread to various other countries, including Thailand, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United States, Australia, France, among others.
The first U.S. case was confirmed on Jan. 21 in a man in Washington state who had recently traveled to Wuhan. On Jan. 24, officials confirmed a second case in a woman from Chicago who had also recently traveled to the Chinese city. Both cases were hospitalized, but doing well, officials said.
The CDC is also investigating more than 60 people in 22 states for a possible infection with the new virus, officials said Friday (Jan. 24). Eleven of those people have so far tested negative for the virus.
According to British Media other reports say that the first person died that week and, by January 16, two were dead and 41 cases were confirmed. The next day, scientists predicted that 1,700 people had become infected, possibly up to 4,500.
Today, just one week later, there have been more than 850 confirmed cases and those same scientists estimate that some 4,000 – possibly 9,700 – were infected in Wuhan alone. There are now 10 countries with confirmed cases and 26 people have died.
Outbreak an epidemic or a pandemic?
The outbreak has not officially been confirmed as either an epidemic or a pandemic yet. This is likely because, despite the global concern, the number of people who have been confirmed to be infected is still relatively low.
A pandemic is defined by the World Health Organisation as the «worldwide spread of a new disease».
However it is widely known that World Health Organisation is highly bureaucratic organization in connection with the fact of numbers lowering by Chinese authorities which means that it can be not well informed about the pandemic real speed of spreading.
An epidemic is when a disease takes hold of a smaller community, such as a single country, region or continent.
How many people have the new virus?
According to latest frequently updating reports there are at least 25 people have died and more than 800 have been sickened by the highly lethal illness, some health officials said. The travel restrictions were imposed on Wuhan were extended to at least four more cities and being widely extending.
There are several reports China authorities lowering real number of victims of nCoV Virus as it is interested panic among population occurred and which is possible due to mass media government control.
How to: Protect from 2019-2020 Chinese virus
As far there isn’t known treatment from the disease there are only preventive ways to defend itself. One of the most effective way of protection is to wear respirator masks, wash hands and avoid contacts with other people in quarantine zones.
The World Health Organization recently reported that a novel coronavirus has caused an outbreak of disease.
It is also highly recommended to provided eyes and hands basic protection like full covering face masks, gloves, google, face shields etc. Protection from airborne particulate calls for using a respirator with N95, FFP2 or equivalent rating.
